Isaac Thuret,<\/span>  born on August 22, 1771<\/span>, baptized on 29 August in Weesp, was the son of Daniel Thuret (1736-1781) and Susanna Maria Putter (1745-1783). Thuret belonged to a Huguenot family, merchants from St. Quentin (the biggest town in the Aisn\u00e9 d\u00e9partement.<\/a> His grandfather Jean Daniel Thuret (1706-1767) settled in Weesp after 1722 or 1730? He married Johanna D’Arrest in 1732 or 1733. <\/p>\n

On March, 17, 1752 the 16-years-old Daniel attacked a female servant in his uncle's house, living in the Bloedstraat in Amsterdam.[Advis van het Hof op de requeste van de Classis van Amsterdam, raakende den predikant Wena te Weesp<\/a>] [Mandament van appel van den Hoogen Rade in Holland [...]. On 18 December 1756, at nine in the evening, Jan Thuret and the family doctor rode their horses up and down the bulwark where it was not allowed. A woman walking with her daughter entering the town from the riverside almost fell in the water trying to avoid him and his horse. In 1758 Daniel married Maria Baers(el)man<\/a> who died in 1765; he remarried in 1766 Susanna Maria<\/em> de Putter<\/em><\/a>, a daughter of the French preacher in Naarden. The couple had two sons and two daughters.  In 1768 Daniel, Isaac and Jan Dorland started a distillery and borrowed 12.000 guilders from Jacques Daniel Thuret.[Het Utrechts Archief<\/a>] In 1773 Daniel owned a warehouse; it was in the news when six bottles wine were stolen.[Nieuwe Nederlandsche jaerboeken of vervolg der …, Band 10, Teil 2<\/a>] Outside Weesp Thuret owned a windmill for grain, called Friendship<\/em>.  Because of the Anglo-Dutch war grain prices raised and the export of jenever was difficult.[Dick Amesz<\/a>] In 1784 a third part was sold to Jan Dorland,[Molendatabase<\/a>] with whom his father already cooperated since 1768 as the manager of the distillery. <\/p>\n

Isaac owned a ware house in the Sleutelsteeg and several houses on Herengracht (northside) in Weesp. His grandfather Jan a tinkering on Achtergracht? <\/p>\n
In 1788 his sister Susanne Anthonia Thuret married in Amsterdam Jan Hendrik Ringeling from Cura\u00e7ao. Her uncle Isaac Thuret (1744-1815),[DTB N-H kerk Weesp, deel 2, doopregister, 1726-1788 ( Regionaal Historisch Centrum Vecht en Venen )<\/a>] who never married, and Jan Dorland were her guardians. (Ringeling and Thuret divorced in 1804.) In July 1792 they consented the marriage of Johanna Magdalena Thuret, Thurets 18-years old sister to 22-years old Arnout Wils, living on Prinsengracht. <\/p>\n
Thuret was a merchant, and owned a ship. He collaborated with Arnoud Wils, a broker. Isaac Thuret<\/span> was in charge of the house Wils & Co since 1790? The company made its fortune in the coffee trade? Around 1796 with financing three English princes, Frederick V, the  landgrave of Hesse-Homburg and Christian August, Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont. Around 1804 made a profit with tea? Silk and cotton seems also likely.<\/p>\n
On January 29, 1795 Isaac Thuret<\/span> was appointed by the new Magistrate of Amsterdam in the “Comit\u00e9 van Expeditie” which had to settle the problems with the French \u00e9migr\u00e9s, in my point of view not with the troupes.[Jaarboek Amstelodamum (1914) COMIT\u00c9S VOOR MILITAIRE ZAKEN, p. 18<\/a>] (500 French immigrants were imprisoned during the invasion of Holland in 1794<\/span>-1795. It seems after they got stuck in Enkhuizen, trying to cross the frozen Zuiderzee. The French commanders felt little to kill women, children and clergy.[Recensies Renaat Gaspar, Op de vlucht voor de guillotine. On May 19, 1798<\/span> the 24-years old Isaac Thuret, living in the Utrechtsestraat,<\/span> married in Baarn the 17-years-old Cornelia Henrica van Steenbergen, living on Keizersgracht. Their first child was Susanna Maria  (9 February 1799-28 March 1800) baptized and buried in Amsterdam. In 1800 Isaac Thuret <\/span>moved to Herengracht 439 in Amsterdam, together with his sister and brother-in-law, Aarnoud Wils.[Amsterdamse Grachtenhuizen<\/a>] On 1 september 1801 his wife died, 20-years old. In October 1802 he sold silk, cotton, pepper, ivory and rum in Antwerp; in December he tried to sell a ship there? <\/p>\n

Zijn broer Dani\u00ebl Thuret richtte in 1801 een handelshuis en annex bank op in Antwerpen. In 1806 werd hij door de Bataafse Republiek benoemd tot Consul en Commissaris van Commercie te Antwerpen. In London, Isaac Thuret<\/span> met his friend Pierre C\u00e9sar Labouch\u00e8re and Dorothy Baring, his wife, daughter of the founder of the bank Baring. C\u00e9sar Labouchere was a banker and diplomat, and a partner of the Hope’s.1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

Hope & Co.<\/a> of Amsterdam, the most powerful merchant bank in Europe's leading financial centre, was Baring's most valuable connection. Their association is said to have begun in the 1760s, when Henry Hope<\/a> passed Baring some bills to negotiate and ended up \u2018exceedingly struck with the transaction which bespoke not only great zeal and activity, but what was still more important ... either good credit or great resources ... From that day Baring became one of their principal friends\u2019 (Barings archives, DEP249). The link was consolidated in other ways, in particular through the marriage in 1796 of Pierre C\u00e9sar Labouch\u00e8re [see under Hope family], a leading figure at Hopes, to Baring's third daughter, Dorothy.<\/pre>\n
There Thuret<\/span> met Henrietta van der Paadevoort (Padevoirt), the daughter of a navy officer, born 4 January 1790  in Demerara (now French Guyana). On 28 July 1808 <\/span>they married in Saint-Martin-in-the-Fields in London. In 1809 <\/span>the Thuret family left Bath and went back to Holland; in the same year his brother-in-law had bought Herengracht 475, one of the prettiest mansions at the canals.  Around  1811 Thuret arrived in Paris and had four more children<\/span>.[De Nederlandse Leeuw (1914)<\/a>]  <\/p>\n
