'https:\/\/ssl' : 'http:\/\/www') + '.google-analytics.com\/ga.js'; var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s); })(); \/\/ ]]><\/script><b>Jan Jacobszoon Hinlopen<\/b> (May 10, 1626 \u2013 September 4, 1666) was a rich <a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Netherlands\">Dutch<\/a> <a title=\"Cloth merchant\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cloth_merchant\">cloth merchant<\/a>, an officer in the <a title=\"Schutterij\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Schutterij\">civic guard<\/a>, a real estate developer in the <a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jordaan\">Jordaan<\/a>, <a title=\"Schepen\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Schepen\">alderman<\/a> in the <a title=\"Vroedschap\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vroedschap\">city council<\/a> and a keen art collector. He would have been elected as a <a title=\"Burgomaster\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Burgomaster\">burgomaster<\/a>, if he had not died at the age of forty, an age considered acceptable to be eligible. He was a prominent patron of the arts in his time, and there is some speculation on being an influential protector of <a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rembrandt\">Rembrandt<\/a> and it is likely that he had good connections with <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Gabriel Metsu\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gabriel_Metsu\">Gabriel Metsu<\/a>. Hinlopen, like his father-in-law, <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Joan Huydecoper I\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joan_Huydecoper_I\">Joan Huydecoper I<\/a>, is known in <a title=\"Art history\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Art_history\">art history<\/a> because of the poems by <a title=\"Jan Vos (poet)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Vos_%28poet%29\">Jan Vos<\/a> reciting the paintings in his house and members of the family. Hinlopen was born as the son of the merchant <a title=\"Jacob J. Hinlopen\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jacob_J._Hinlopen\">Jacob J. Hinlopen<\/a> (1582\u20131629), who traded spices and <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Ship chandler\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ship_chandler\">ship chandlery<\/a>. The family origins were in <a title=\"Duchy of Brabant\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Duchy_of_Brabant\">Brabant<\/a>, then the <a title=\"Southern Netherlands\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Southern_Netherlands\">Southern Netherlands<\/a>. After <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Siege of Antwerp (1584-1585)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Siege_of_Antwerp_%281584-1585%29\">Antwerp<\/a> had been occupied by the Spanish, Protestants, who did not want to convert to Catholicism, were ordered to sell their homes and immoveable possessions and depart. Within four years many Flemish cities lost half of their population emigrating to the north.<sup id=\"cite_ref-1\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Jacobszoon_Hinlopen#cite_note-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup> It is possible the family moved in an earlier stage to the North and in 1572 escaped from <a title=\"Naarden\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Naarden\">Naarden<\/a>, where all the inhibitants were killed in a massacre.<sup id=\"cite_ref-2\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Jacobszoon_Hinlopen#cite_note-2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup> Anyhow, the new immigrants lived in a house on the <a title=\"Nieuwendijk\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nieuwendijk\">Nieuwendijk<\/a>, named &#8220;<i>Hinlopen<\/i>&#8221; and very close to the harbour. The name of house has to do with <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Hindelopen\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hindelopen\">Hindelopen<\/a>, the small town in the North, producing many skippers and sailors.<\/p>\n<p>After coming of age, Jan J. Hinlopen lived with his brother <a title=\"Jacob J. Hinlopen\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jacob_J._Hinlopen\">Jacob J. Hinlopen<\/a> on the Leliegracht at the corner of the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Keizersgracht\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Keizersgracht\">Keizersgracht<\/a>, not far from their parents, who moved to <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Herengracht\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Herengracht\">Herengracht<\/a>. The brothers made money from a cloth business in <a title=\"Warmoesstraat\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Warmoesstraat\">Warmoesstraat<\/a> and through building cheap housing in the <a title=\"Jordaan\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jordaan\">Jordaan<\/a>. When their mother died in 1652, the daughter of a <a title=\"Haarlem\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Haarlem\">Haarlem<\/a> brewer and burgomaster and herself the owner of a brewery, the Hinlopen brothers inherited a mansion designed by <a title=\"Philips Vingboons\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Philips_Vingboons\">Philips Vingboons<\/a>, nicely situated in the woods between <a title=\"Baarn\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Baarn\">Baarn<\/a>, <a title=\"Soest, Netherlands\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Soest,_Netherlands\">Soest<\/a> and <a title=\"Hilversum\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hilversum\">Hilversum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Career\" class=\"mw-headline\">Career<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Wishing to make a career in city politics, Jan enrolled in the <a title=\"Schutterij\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Schutterij\">civic guard<\/a> as an <a title=\"Ensign (rank)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ensign_%28rank%29\">ensign<\/a> in 1651-1653 and in 1655. He served under captain <a title=\"Gerrit Reynst\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gerrit_Reynst\">Gerrit Reynst<\/a>, also an art collector. When the new <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Royal Palace (Amsterdam)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Royal_Palace_%28Amsterdam%29\">town hall<\/a> was opened on July 29, Jan was participating in a parade on <a title=\"Dam Square\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dam_Square\">Dam Square<\/a>; he wrote that three <a title=\"Salvo\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Salvo\">salvos<\/a> were discharged, but not that his brother <a title=\"Jacob J. Hinlopen\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jacob_J._Hinlopen\">Jacob<\/a> was sent out of the city for a day. In 1656 he was appointed as a city official in the <a title=\"Nieuwe Kerk (Amsterdam)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nieuwe_Kerk_%28Amsterdam%29\">Nieuwe Kerk<\/a>. He resigned within a few months, when he was appointed as an administrator in the townhall. In the <a title=\"Schutterij\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Schutterij\">schutterij<\/a> Jan was promoted <a title=\"Lieutenant\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lieutenant\">lieutenant<\/a>. On February 1, 1661 Jan was elected as <a title=\"Schepen\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Schepen\">schepen<\/a>. He may have witnessed the unveiling of Rembrandts&#8217; painting <a title=\"The Conspiracy of Claudius Civilis\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Conspiracy_of_Claudius_Civilis\">The Conspiracy of Claudius Civilis<\/a> in the town hall, as well as its removal a couple of months later.<\/p>\n<p>On April 3, 1657, Jan J. Hinlopen married Leonore Huydecoper of Maarseveen (1631\u20131663), the daughter of a rich mayor, <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Joan Huydecoper I\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joan_Huydecoper_I\">Johan Huydecoper van Maarsseveen<\/a> and an art lover. There is a sketch by her father for the arrangement of the chairs for the main room in his house on <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Singel (Amsterdam)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Singel_%28Amsterdam%29\">Singel<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-3\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Jacobszoon_Hinlopen#cite_note-3\">[3]<\/a><\/sup> <a title=\"Jan Vos (poet)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Vos_%28poet%29\">Jan Vos<\/a> the local theatre director, gave five performances including accompanying poems for the occasion. Pierpont Morgan<\/a> in 1917<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3><span id=\"Family\" class=\"mw-headline\">Family<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Jan and Leonore had four children:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jacob (October 20, 1658 \u2013 <a title=\"Lage Vuursche\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lage_Vuursche\">Lage Vuursche<\/a>, July 12, 1664),<\/li>\n<li>Johanna Maria (April 16, 1659 \u2013 June 15, 1706),<\/li>\n<li><a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Sara Hinlopen\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sara_Hinlopen\">Sara<\/a> (June 12, 1660 \u2013 June 16, 1749), and<\/li>\n<li>Geertrui (January 1, 1662 \u2013 August 14, 1663).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Jan Hinlopen made distinct notes as to time of birth and date of baptism in the <a title=\"Westerkerk\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Westerkerk\">Westerkerk<\/a>, at what time they were born and on which day they were baptized in the <a title=\"Westerkerk\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Westerkerk\">Westerkerk<\/a>. His diary becomes dramatic when Jan J. Hinlopen lost his youngest daughter developing <a title=\"Measles\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Measles\">measles<\/a> and his wife having a miscarriage after seven months. The next day, on October 29, around ten in the evening the baby was carried to the Old&nbsp; Church by his servant Jan, accompanied by two other men, most probably undertakers.<sup id=\"cite_ref-6\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Jacobszoon_Hinlopen#cite_note-6\">[6]<\/a><\/sup> Although the family lived at Doelenstraat, the baby was carried away from a house at Oude Schans. On November 1, his wife Leonora died at 5.30 in the morning, being ill for seven days. His only son Jacob died at Pijnenburg, when his father was not present.<\/p>\n<p>On January 6, 1665 Jan remarried to <a title=\"Lucia Wijbrants\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lucia_Wijbrants\">Lucia Wijbrants<\/a> in the <a title=\"Nieuwe Kerk (Amsterdam)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nieuwe_Kerk_%28Amsterdam%29\">Nieuwe Kerk<\/a>. At some time Hinlopen moved from Doelenstraat, which he rented from <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pieter_Carpentier\">Pieter Carpentier<\/a>, to house on <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Kloveniersburgwal\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kloveniersburgwal\">Kloveniersburgwal<\/a>, opposite <a title=\"Jan Six\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Six\">Jan Six<\/a>. He was living next to his brother, <a title=\"Jacob J. Hinlopen\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jacob_J._Hinlopen\">Jacob J. Hinlopen<\/a>, then a superintendent of a nearby elderly peoples home. Lucia gave birth to a still born child on November 11, 1665. In 1666 he commissioned a painting from <a title=\"Bartholomeus van der Helst\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bartholomeus_van_der_Helst\">Bartholomeus van der Helst<\/a> of Lucia, himself and the hunting dogs, but showing his deceased first wife and children in the background.<sup id=\"cite_ref-7\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Jacobszoon_Hinlopen#cite_note-7\">[7]<\/a><\/sup> Jan J. Hinlopen.<sup id=\"cite_ref-8\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Jacobszoon_Hinlopen#cite_note-8\">[8]<\/a><\/sup> It is based on thed Old Testament story. During a banquet the wife of the Persian King Ahasuerus, the Jewess Esther accuses the king&#8217;s favourite Haman of plotting to destroy her people.<sup id=\"cite_ref-9\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Jacobszoon_Hinlopen#cite_note-9\">[9]<\/a><\/sup> This painting may be one of the few paintings by Rembrandt whose provenance can be traced back to the year 1662. In that year Jan Vos published a poetry book in which there were sundry poems based on the paintings of Jan J. Hinlopen.<sup id=\"cite_ref-10\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Jacobszoon_Hinlopen#cite_note-10\">[10]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>In his collection were two paintings by <a title=\"Jan Lievens\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Lievens\">Jan Lievens<\/a>, <i>The raising of <a title=\"Lazarus of Bethany\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lazarus_of_Bethany\">Lazarus<\/a><\/i>, now in Bristol, and <i>Christ in the tomb<\/i>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-11\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Jacobszoon_Hinlopen#cite_note-11\">[11]<\/a><\/sup> The painting by <a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bartholomeus_van_der_Helst\">Bartholomeus van der Helst<\/a> was inherited by his second wife Lucia Wijbrants. Furthermore he had a painting of flowers by <a title=\"Willem van Aelst\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Willem_van_Aelst\">Willem van Aelst<\/a>, and the painting <i>Simon in the temple with Christ as a child<\/i> by <a title=\"Gerbrand van den Eeckhout\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gerbrand_van_den_Eeckhout\">Gerbrand van den Eeckhout<\/a>. In his salon he showed <i>Venus in a cloud full of <a title=\"Cupid\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cupid\">Cupids<\/a><\/i> by <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Rubens\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rubens\">Rubens<\/a>, which she inherited from her father <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Joan Huydecoper I\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joan_Huydecoper_I\">Joan Huydecoper van Maarsseveen<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Two_paintings_by_Metsu\" class=\"mw-headline\">Two paintings by Metsu<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>One of the two paintings by <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Gabriel Metsu\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gabriel_Metsu\">Gabriel Metsu<\/a> belonging to Hinlopen does depict the Hinlopen family. That one is in the Berlin <a title=\"Gem\u00e4ldegalerie, Berlin\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gem%C3%A4ldegalerie,_Berlin\">Gem\u00e4ldegalerie<\/a>. Whether or not the one in the New York <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Metropolitan_Museum\">Metropolitan Museum<\/a> is also depicting Hinlopen and his wife is still not clear. <a title=\"Arnold Houbraken\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arnold_Houbraken\">Arnold Houbraken<\/a>, in 1721, recalled the latter painting as the largest and finest work by Metsu he had ever seen.<sup id=\"cite_ref-12\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Jacobszoon_Hinlopen#cite_note-12\">[12]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>There is still some confusion among art historians about the history of one of the paintings by Metsu, now in the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Gem\u00e4ldegalerie\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gem%C3%A4ldegalerie\">Gem\u00e4ldegalerie<\/a>. Besides it is not clear if this painting is a <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Genre works\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Genre_works\">genre work<\/a> or a <a title=\"Portrait\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Portrait\">portrait<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-13\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Jacobszoon_Hinlopen#cite_note-13\">[13]<\/a><\/sup> After the <a title=\"Geelvinck\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Geelvinck\">Geelvinck<\/a> family ceased to exist in the early 19th century, the traces to the real origins were lost. The Swiss family Tschiffely sold the painting in 1832. In the end of the 19th century it was known as depicting the <i>Familie des Kaufmanns Gelfing<\/i>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-14\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Jacobszoon_Hinlopen#cite_note-14\">[14]<\/a><\/sup> In 1907 the known Dutch art-historian <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Hofstede de Groot\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hofstede_de_Groot\">Hofstede de Groot<\/a> mentioned the <a title=\"Parrot\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Parrot\">parrot<\/a> in the painting of the <i>Familie Geelvinck<\/i>. Metsu (1663)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In 1976 Van Eeghen renamed the painting to <i>De familie van burgemeester <a title=\"Gillis Valckenier\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gillis_Valckenier\">Gillis Valckenier<\/a><\/i>, and dated it in 1657.<sup id=\"cite_ref-17\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Jacobszoon_Hinlopen#cite_note-17\">[17]<\/a><\/sup> This was mainly based on the bird in the painting, which van Eeghen imagined to be a <a title=\"Falcon\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Falcon\">falcon<\/a>. Irene Groeneweg reasons that the bird, held by the boy, is a <a title=\"Cuban Amazon\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cuban_Amazon\">Cuban Amazon<\/a> parrot.<sup id=\"cite_ref-18\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Jacobszoon_Hinlopen#cite_note-18\">[18]<\/a><\/sup> Another reason to doubt the classification is that, according to the Amsterdam City Archives, burgomaster <a title=\"Gillis Valckenier\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gillis_Valckenier\">Gillis Valckenier<\/a> had six children at the time of the paintings creation.<sup id=\"cite_ref-19\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Jacobszoon_Hinlopen#cite_note-19\">[19]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Judith van Gent discovered that there was a resemblance with Hinlopen&#8217;s on the works of <a title=\"Bartholomeus van der Helst\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bartholomeus_van_der_Helst\">Bartholomeus van der Helst<\/a> and the family, depicted by Metsu on the painting in Berlin. Additionally she discovered support for her view in Hinlopens will.<sup id=\"cite_ref-20\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Jacobszoon_Hinlopen#cite_note-20\">[20]<\/a><\/sup> Nevertheless the painting is still and erroneously referred to as: <i>The Family of burgomaster Gillis Valckenier<\/i>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-21\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Jacobszoon_Hinlopen#cite_note-21\">[21]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>The painting in the <a title=\"Metropolitan Museum of Art\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Metropolitan_Museum_of_Art\">Metropolitan Museum of Art<\/a>, called <i>A Visit to the Nursery<\/i>, dated 1661, may depict the family Hinlopen. According to Walter Liedtke there is some general resemblance. The scene is set in an imaginary room. The chimney resembles the one in the former Amsterdam townhall, also painted by <a title=\"Pieter de Hooch\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pieter_de_Hooch\">Pieter de Hooch<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-22\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Jacobszoon_Hinlopen#cite_note-22\">[22]<\/a><\/sup> A guest is greeted by the new mother and her hat-doffing husband. There is a <a title=\"Seascape\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Seascape\">seascape<\/a>, a painting of a brawny fisherman on the wall and <a title=\"Persian carpet\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Persian_carpet\">Persian carpets<\/a> on the table and the floor.<sup id=\"cite_ref-23\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Jacobszoon_Hinlopen#cite_note-23\">[23]<\/a><\/sup> The dog in the painting could be a <a title=\"Bolognese (dog)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bolognese_%28dog%29\">Bolognese<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The history of this painting is well-known, except for between the years 1666 and 1706.<sup id=\"cite_ref-24\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Jacobszoon_Hinlopen#cite_note-24\">[24]<\/a><\/sup> In 1662 Jan Vos published a poem about this painting, belonging to Jan J. Hinlopen.<sup id=\"cite_ref-25\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Jacobszoon_Hinlopen#cite_note-25\">[25]<\/a><\/sup> Most of Jan Hinlopen&#8217;s collection passed to his daughters. In 1680, after the burial of his brother and guardian <a title=\"Jacob J. Hinlopen\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jacob_J._Hinlopen\">Jacob J.
